Now that we are officially into August it’s time to get the littles back on track with their morning routine. Fall is an important time to begin getting back into those healthy sleep routines as well. This makes the transition easier for everyone. I love knowing that I can accomplish this with safe and natural solutions. The best part about dōTERRA is that, no matter what life change you are experiencing, there are products and oils to help you get through. My littles are hardly ever under the weather, and I like to keep it that way.
Boost your child’s immunity proactively before school starts with some of the finest quality supplements money can buy. I want the best for my kids, and I know you want the best for yours too. Below is a protocol you can use when you need to boost their immune system response, emotions, and growing pains. August 2017 monthly specials are on point with the season’s priority.
Back to School Immune & Emotional Support for Kids
Start the year with calm and tranquility. We are all a little nervous about going back to school. In addition to my oily biz, and my work helping others find natural solutions, and empower their lives, I work at my childrens’ school. Watching them play, out on the yard, and eat in the lunch room, is often a challenge for me as I must stop what I am doing and transition myself into this role. When you are doing something you love, it is really hard to quit doing it. I use a lot of different oils to help me transition to “the next thing”, because I found out now that I have a tough time with transitions. But alas, I am so grateful for the opportunity to get to know our school community on a deeper level, and for the opportunity it affords me. My transition into this role, even momentarily, gives so much back to the community.
The struggle is REAL, and I am not going to lie and tell you that life is perfect. Before going over the oils that assist and support, I want to make sure I touch on some super helpful lifestyle hacks that will help you feel your most energized self.
Make a nutritious, balanced diet a priority. Teaching kids at a young age the importance of healthy eating habits can make a lasting impression on health, including keeping germs away. Emphasize avoiding processed foods, and eating plenty of fruits, veggies, protein and whole grains. Limit sugar, a known immunity suppressant. Organic, non-GMO clean foods are so important for overall health. Nutrition is critical. Shakes made with TerraGreens are yummy and provide a nutrient rich method of delivery for all ages.
Fiber, Fat, Greens, Protein are the four most important ingredients in any meal. Start their day with a satiating breakfast, such as oatmeal with fruit, yogurt and granola, or a veggie-packed omelet. Continue with a balanced lunch and snacks, such as a sandwich with nut protein, sprouted crackers with organic grass-fed cheese, and fresh fruit. Finish with a healthy dinner of legumes, veggies, eggs and a complex carb. Drink plenty of bone broth during this transition from Summer into Fall. For vegans, and those who don’t eat animal proteins, try nuts, seeds, chickpeas, beans, legumes, leafy greens, tempeh. Rice and beans are a complete protein when eaten together. Another complete protein is broccoli eaten with mushrooms and corn. Yay for veggie burgers!
Soap up often. Experts say the #1 way to ward off sickness is to practice frequent hand washing, so encourage your child to lather up regularly. In addition, make sure kids avoid the habit of touching or rubbing their face, especially the nose, eyes and mouth, to avoid infection. At home, frequently clean high-contact items, such as doorknobs, faucets and telephones.
Ensure your kids de-stress. As there is a direct correlation between stress and a weakened immune response, make sure kids have time to play and unwind. Encourage time outdoors to unplug from technology, as well as creative activities such as painting and drawing. Exercise is also an ideal outlet, strengthening immunity, busting stress and protecting against childhood obesity. Experts even suggest that children try yoga and meditation, which have been found to boost immunity, improve concentration, lower stress, increase confidence and much more.
While every extra precaution helps prevent getting sick, sometimes it inevitably occurs. Don’t fight it—instead, make sure your child stays home, gets plenty of rest, gets an abundance of support using essential oils, and keeps hydrated.

Back to School Support Protocol
You can apply these blends separately or together over your heart and feet every day. I like to split it up into two applications, and do Balance in the morning, and Serenity as I need it based on how anxious I am feeling that day. I personally use oils a lot just standing out on the yard at recess because it is a great way for me to stay alert and focused on the children at play.
Apply to bottoms of feet and over heart several times throughout the day. Balance before leaving the house and Serenity at bedtime or for tough situations is key. Give your kids a rollerball with the oils diluted in fractionated coconut oil. This way they are empowered to roll it on and inhale to take a much needed break in their day, or when situations get uncomfortable.
Daily Roller or Spray Bottle Blend
(some people find sprays easier to use than rollers)
In a 10mL roller or 4 oz spray bottle
7 drops OnGuard (immune function)
On Guard is for a child’s natural defense, and to boost immunity.
3 drops Balance (emotional support)
3 drops In Tune (focus)
drops Cedarwood (centering, grounding)
2 drop Bergamot (supporting confidence)
3 drops Roman Chamomile (calming, stabilizing)
5 drops Frankincense (cellular health)
1 drop Melissa (most antiviral oils)
1 drop Oregano (most antibacterial oil)
Blend together (with a crystal of choice, and some dried rose petals for a higher vibration) in your roller/sprayer and top with fractionated coconut oil.
Apply to spine, back of neck, bottoms of feet and pulse points. Consistency is key.
Breathe Respiratory Drop – take one in the pocket for later in the day, especially useful before PE for oxygenation. Also comes in handy in stuffy classrooms, that put kids to sleep, when they just need to take a deep breathe, but there is no air.
Slim and Sassy Metabolic Gum for after lunch to cleanse the teeth and palate and for digestion.
Protective/Lice Prevention Hair Spray
In a 4 oz. bottle mix –
2 Tbs fractionated coconut oil
Add a pinch of salt
6 drops Lavender
6 drops Peppermint
6 drops Melaleuca
Fill the rest with: 1/2 water & 1/2 witch hazel
-Shake Well- Spray on hair and comb through.
Dilute: Deep Blue Touch for the athlete in your family. I love how dōTERRA not only support everyone’s immune system, and stress level, but it also comes in handy for so many of life’s physical situations that occur with little growing bodies. I dilute the touch roller in half for my 10 year old.
Diffuse: Serenity is for a restful night’s sleep for them and for you. Spray on sheets and onto pillow and stuffies. Apply down the spine, base of skull because thats where the brain stem is, as well as the bottoms of the feet.
Super Power Immunity Blend
A potent super blend that I mixed up to help with the occasional sniffle. At the very first sign of a weakened immune system, my kids get this blend on their feet, down their spine, at the brain stem, and in the diffuser. I combine it with the healing properties and energies of crystals and gemstone crystal rollers.
6 drops Oregano
6 drops Melissa
6 drops OnGuard
10 drops Frankincense
Top it off with fractionated coconut oil
Homework Diffuser Blend
2 drops Basil (promotes focus and alertness)
2 drops Bergamot (calming and uplifting at the same time, and especially helpful when you are feeling anxious).
2 drops Motivate (unleashes creative powers)
2 drops Spearmint (evokes focus and a positive mood)
Oil pulling is a great way to pull toxins from our bodies. The kids and I do this a few times a week. All you need to do is combine 1 teaspoon coconut oil with 1/2 drop of oil of choice (we like peppermint) in a spoon and swish for 2-10 minutes. You can also use ice molds to freeze the mixture and transfer to a jar. Look out for that simple recipe in the upcoming month! My kids love having a chilled piece of oiled up coconut oil ready to pop into their mouths.
I have also been exploring Tapping. If you haven’t heard of it, I discovered it 8 years ago, and used to do it a lot, until I stopped for a while. Now I am working on tapping during my daily meditation practice, and I hope the kids will be intrigued enough to listen to my unit on it designed just for them.
