probiotic parfait ingredients

Breakfast for many people is the most important meal of the day.  Children, and people in general do better in school when they have a complete breakfast.  I occasionally do intermittent fasting, where I drink coffee with MCT oil,  grass-fed butter, and collagen.  You can learn more about the health benefits of intermittent fasting too!  When I do this, I normally won’t eat my first real meal of the day until around 1 or 2PM.    I just feel satisfied on all that good fat.

Some days, I do do breakfast,  and I like it even more when all I need to do is grab, and go, straight from my fridge.  I mean, who has time to cook a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast every day?  With our busy lives and early start time to our day, I would be a complete mess if I didn’t offer you guys some easy make-ahead recipes for breakfast.

I suggest you use organic dairy products.  If you have landed here on my blog, maybe you are looking for answers on how to improve your health and live a flourishing lifestyle.  Believe me when I tell you that you do not want to eat dairy from cows that have been pumped with antibiotics, hormones and who knows what else.   Fast Food Nation is an excellent book for you to read if you are looking to educate yourself more on that topic.

Here is a recipe for a greek yogurt parfait, that I have been loving on for quite some time now. I just cannot keep it to myself anymore, I must confess and share this amazing product with you!  I sincerely hope that you will gain knowledge here and create a healthier life for yourself.  Or at the very least be inspired to prep your own overnight oats, and make you life a little easier, so you too, can focus more on doing what you love.

Ingredients

🍦Strauss Whole Greek Yogurt :  this is local for where I live and you can definitely find an organic greek yogurt in your area, just make sure it is whole milk yogurt.  Non of that gross non-fat or low-fat junk.  Chemicals are used to remove the fat in dairy products, and it is not natural.

🍓Organic Berries of any variety.  I like to use blackberries, blueberries, and/or strawberries.

Great Lakes Gelatin : It is $9 cheaper on Thrive Market than on Amazon.

Chia Seeds:  organic and sustainably grown , the best value and variety I have found is on Thrive Market.

Raw Honey :  I used Greenbee honey made by Philosophie, they make different ones, and the one I have is the spiraling kind.  I get it through a CSA in SF.  if you love in SF, Benicia, Berkeley, Campbell, Fremont, Gilroy, Hollister, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill, Moutain View, Oakland Lake Merritt, Orinda, Palo Alto, Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Francisco, San Jose, San Mateo, San Rafael, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Union City, or Walnut Creek, you may want to check it out.  If you are out there in the middle of nowhere, and don’t have access to local raw honey, find some here.

Larger containers get you the best value!

Granola  :  I have been loving the Paleonola from Thrive Market.  It comes in a variety of flavors.

Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds which I buy through Thrive Market because it’s definitely the best value.

I like my greek yogurt parfait simple, but for the kiddos they prefer when I mix in the PB Assist Junior because it tastes just like fun dip, and so they get excited to eat their healthy food.

PB Assist Jr is a powdered probiotic supplement designed for children or adults who have trouble swallowing pills. It includes 5 billion live cells of a unique blend of six different probiotic strains, specifically selected for their benefits among children. These probiotics have been blended into a delicious powder that can be poured directly into the mouth for a fun and tasty way to integrate probiotics into anyone’s daily routine.

  • Make sure you’ve got a few mason jars handy.  You can use leftover glass pickle jars, jam jars or olives if they are small enough.  I use two different sizes (1 pint and 8 oz.)  depending on how big I need them to be.  Find the pint size jars easily.

  1. Gather your jars and lids.  For this recipe I am using the larger pint size mason jar.  You can modify your amounts when using a smaller 8 oz. jar.  Mix 1 Tbsp of the Great lakes Gelatin into the yogurt before dividing it up. (If you want to use the PB Assist Jr., just mix one pack in with the full amount of yogurt you will need (2/3 cups of yogurt before proceeding with assembly).
  2. Spoon 1/3 cup greek yogurt into the bottom of your jar(s).
  3. Spoon 1 Tbsp raw honey into the jar.
  4. Add a nice amount of berries, usually 6-8 depending on size.
  5. Add 2 tsp of chia seeds
  6. Add 6-8 more berries
  7. Add another 1 Tbsp granola
  8. Add another 1/3 cup of greek yogurt
  9. Add 2 tsp of sprouted pumpkin seeds
  10. Top it off with berries.
  11. Sprinkle a few more pumpkin seeds on top
  12. Seal the lid and store in the fridge.   Enjoy the next morning.  Breakfast  is done.

I put the honey on the bottom to create a sweetness at the end of the meal. I layer the granola between the berries, so that it doesn’t get too soggy from touching the yogurt. I do let the greek yogurt touch the berries towards the top of the layering system since I’ve found that with less weight, it does alright.  I use greek yogurt, always, because it has is less runny, with a thicker consistency, and a higher protein count.

Enjoy
